Interview Tips – Dress to Impress
6 Dressing tips that will help you to face any Interview with confidence
An interviewee makes an impression before she/he even utters a single word, based on how she/he is dressed. Therefore you can’t take a chance in choosing appropriate attire for an interview.
Here is a list of criteria for choosing your dress:
- Industry (where you’ll be interviewing)
- Geographic Location (which part of the country the interview is scheduled in)
- Season (Summer, Winter, Monsoon)
It’s very important that you put your efforts into researching the culture of the company and generally accepted attire of that particular industry to select your interview outfit.
WOMEN
- Wear Light Coloured Cotton Salwar-Kameez (preferably for PSUs or small cities) or Western Formals (Solid Colours with Coordinated blouse)
- Wear light makeup. Makeup is okay as long as it’s basic and light.
- Limited Jewelry.
- Don’t wear strong perfumes. Strong perfumes/deodorants may make many people uncomfortable due to various medical conditions; therefore choose your perfume carefully.
- Chose simple and comfortable and formal leather shoes or sandals. Don’t wear a flashy shoe/sandal with shiny materials. Always wear the new shoe/sandal for a few days before the actual interview; this will make the shoe fit comfortably.
- Ensure that you are well-groomed and your clothes are clean and pressed.
MEN
- Light Colour Long Sleeved Shirt with matching Dark Colour Pant (According to the organization culture and season, you can add a simple matching tie). If you are wearing a suit it should be of solid colour (preferably dark shades), nothing fancy.
- Black Professional Leather Shoes with Dark Socks (Preferably). You can wear tan / brown shoes but coordinate it with Pant and wear a belt of the same colour as shoes.

- Don’t wear strong perfumes. Strong perfumes/deodorants may make many people uncomfortable due to various medical conditions; therefore choose your perfume carefully.
- Neat and Professional Hairstyle.
